Translator Training Program 2023-24

This application form is for new applicants. Applicants who have not studied at RYI in the past.

Statement of Purpose

The Statement of Purpose describes in 350 to 500 words the applicant’s intentions for studying at RYI. It should describe the applicants general background, academic interests and reasons for applying. It may list academic honors, extracurricular activities, and personal interests.

Education Information

Provide all education information and upload all transcripts or certificates that are relevant for your application. 
Select your highest education.

Enter the name of the Higher Secondary School (through grade 12) you attended and the year of your graduation.

Upload a digital copy of your transcript. This transcript needs to show grades of grade 11 and 12. If the transcript is not in English, please also upload its official English translation.

Describe your current Colloquial and Classical Tibetan knowledge and level. Include details of your past study.

Enter the name of the university or college, the degree awarded and the year of your graduation.

Upload a digital copy of your transcript. This transcript needs to show grades. If the transcript is not in English, please also upload its official English translation.

List all other universities/colleges, the diplomas or degrees you have earned and the year of graduation.

Upload copies of your other certificate or transcripts.

English Language Proficiency

Applicants whose native language is not English and who do not have an undergraduate or graduate degree from a university in an English-speaking country must submit results of an English proficiency test or other proof of English language proficiency. 
 
Unless native speaker, upload a English Language Proficiency Certificate.
Applicants must have a good command of English, sufficient for university-level study. For non-native English speakers, please submit some proof of English language proficiency, such as an international standard English test (IELTS, TOEFL, iBT, CEFR, etc.), a letter from an employer or professor, or a letter describing your experience with the English language, particularly with respect to understanding spoken lectures.

Recommendation and Reference

Provide a letter of reference from a Lama in the Tibetan tradition, evaluating your suitability for the Translator Training Program.

The letter must be printed on letterhead and bear the signature of the referee. The referee should be instructed to scan the letter with his or her signature and send the digital file directly to admissions@ryi.org.

Provided a letter of recommendation from a former language teacher, to help us assess your aptitude for language learning.

Application Fee

After submitting your application, you must pay a non-refundable application fee. Upon submitting the application form, you'll receive an email confirmation and instructions on how to pay the application fee. Check your email inbox (and spam folder). Administration processes applications ONLY after receiving the application fee.
